Dr Olaya Hanashiro is Coordinator of Projects of the Brazilian Forum of Public Safety and co-editor of the Brazilian Journal of Public Safety. She directed the International Relations Program of the Latin American Faculty for Social Science, and was researcher at the Centre for the Study of Violence of the University of São Paulo and the Teotônio Vilela Commission on Human Rights. She has taught and done research on issues related to human rights, democracy and democratisation, rule of law, policing, comparative politics, regional integration, and international relations theory. She has also acted as academic consultant to UNDP. Dr Hanashiro has a BA in Social Science and a MA in Political Science, both from the University of São Paulo, and a PhD in Political Science from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
