About Know Violence in Childhood:

Learning about how countries can prevent violence experienced by children is key to minimizing the enormous costs imposed by violence on children, their families, communities and societies.

Know Violence in Childhood is a global learning initiative aimed at leveraging available evidence from around the world to tell the story about violence in childhood – not just its forms, drivers, impacts and costs – but more importantly, what can be done to reduce violence effectively to contribute to the agenda of improving child well-being.

From the ED's Desk:

We are delighted to share with you our first news update since we started work last year.

In the six months since we started, the team at Know Violence in Childhood has been engaged in expanding the many strands of our work.

  •          Our Secretariat is functioning at the Public Health Foundation of India
  •          Our administrative hub at the University of Delaware is up and running
  •          We launched our initiative with an event in New Delhi in November
is clustered around three learning groups
which focus on the key settings where children experience violence:

Homes and Families

Schools

Communities and
Public Spaces

Regional Roundtables

we are establishing regional roundtables that will bring to us
Evidence, Perspectives and Voices from different
stakeholders, reflecting the diversity of contexts within which
violence is expressed.

Our aim is to translate all this learning into concrete recommendations for what countries can do with appropriate investments to break the cycle of violence and improve human development outcomes. The Sustainable Development Goals provide the consensus-based framework that will allow us to support governments to achieve their commitment to the global aspiration to end violence everywhere. Investing in children and their right to safe and healthy childhoods will be the game-changer for sustained reductions in violence.
